ESCaperucita & Little Flying Hood, consisting of 26 prints on aluminum Dibond, is a bilingual text-based work depicting the characters’ journey through an area of turbulence in the form of textual noise somewhere in the Caribbean. What begins with a coded signal, factual data and a lovers’ dialogue, evolves into a stream of consciousness rambling. The work explores the creative potential inherent in code-switching, Spanglish and textspeak as hybrid forms of communication that are able to intermix and transcend geographic and psychological spaces as well as digital and analog modes.
ESCaperucita & Little Flying Hood 26 panels, 20x20 inches each, edition: 1/1, 2012 This is the latest work of a larger project produced for the X Havana Biennial. An artist book, a catalog with a companion essay by José Quiroga, and a series of limited edition portfolios were also produced. |
