Postcards from Puerto Rico: La piña está bien agria
postcard intervention, San Juan, Puerto Rico
4 x 6 inches, offset printing, edition: 500
La piña está agria (the pineapple is sour) is a somewhat-humorous idiomatic expression that points to tough economic times. In the midst of a local financial recession, the project involved designing, printing and shop-dropping postcards in tourist stores in Old San Juan; others were casually disseminated or mailed abroad from the island. This work aimed to upend the usual tourist postcard, which promotes the island as a paradise to be consumed.
